Kerui, the world's leading silicon carbide semiconductor company, and ZF Friedrichshafen AG announced a strategic cooperation to develop industry-leading high efficiency electric drive equipment.
Through this strategic cooperation, Kerui and ZF will strengthen the existing cooperation. J, head of e-mobility division of ZF ö RG grotendorst said: "we are very happy to establish cooperation with Kerui. By combining the advantages of Corey wolfspeed SiC technology and ZF, we firmly believe that we will further enhance the efficiency and competitive advantage of our components and systems. "
Compared with the current standard silicon (SI) technology, the future use of SiC based power semiconductor will increase the driving range of electric vehicles (EV). In view of the high cost of battery, high efficiency electric drive will bring huge growth potential in the foreseeable future. In particular, SiC technology combined with 800V vehicle electrical system will make a significant contribution to further improve the efficiency.
Gregg Lowe, chief executive of Kerui, said: "the cooperation with the world's leading first-class automotive suppliers such as ZF to adopt SiC Based Power Inverter in the next generation of electric vehicles shows that SiC is expanding its application in electric vehicles and playing an indispensable role."
Electric power system is making a great contribution to the realization of global emission reduction goals, and making transportation more sustainable. ZF has received orders for SiC based electric drives from many of the world's leading automotive manufacturers. Kerui technology will be used to meet ZF's current orders. Through this strategic cooperation, ZF is expected to officially launch SiC electric power system on the market before 2022.
ZF started to set up e-mobility business unit in Schweinfurt in January 2016 to carry out electric transportation business. At present, the Division has more than 9000 employees in different regions of the world.
Kerui is committed to leading the global transformation from Si to SiC, and recently announced the SiC capacity expansion plan. It plans to build a super material factory in Durham, North Carolina and the world's largest SiC device manufacturing factory in New York. Kerui wolfspeed provides a wealth of power and RF solutions based on SiC and Gan.
